D.O.B: 07/09/82
Height: 6′1″
Weight:
Position: Forward
Notes:
Born in Washington State, USA, but a British-passport holder by virtue of parentage, Butler has been a vital, and experienced, player on the GB team since the summer of 2007.
The 2009-10 domestic season opened with the 6’1” forward playing for Panionios in Greece, the fifth high-profile European club of Butler’s professional career, which started in 2006-07 when she began the season with Panathinaikos in Athens before completing the campaign with leading Israeli side Anda Ramat Hasharon, for whom she also played in the EuroCup.
Having spent the following season with Kosice in the strong Slovakian league, where she also appeared in the Euroleague, the 2008-09 season saw Butler in Spain with San Jose Leon, where she gained yet more experience at the European level in the EuroCup.
Butler’s success at the professional level should have come as no surprise given her excellent high school and college careers. At high school in Tacoma, she was also outstanding at track and field and football, being named an All-State soccer player, before accepting a basketball scholarship at Santa Clara. She transferred to Oregon State for the 2004-05 season and enjoyed two successful seasons there, helping the school compete in the NCAA Tournament.
Damian Jennings says: “Kim’s leadership qualities are what stands out, the buoyancy she brings to the team when she is around it. She is a very bubbly character yet very determined with it and, at times, you have to say she is the glue that binds the whole team together. It also helps that she brings so much quality and experience with her as well.”
