GB Men Remain UNDEFEATED, 5-0! Women get a “W” too!

by Sam on August 18, 2010

Great night for GB hoops last night as the men held on for a 66-64 victory over Hungary at the NIA, Birmingham, meaning they are now 5-0, whilst the women a little bit further away in Germany, won 72-63.

The men suffered a scare after leading by as much as 15, when Hungary came storming back into it in the fourth quarter. They kept their composure however, and thanks to a game saving block from Luol Deng, held on for the tight two point victory. Pops was once against a monster on the boards, finishing with 17 to go along with his 15 points, Nate Reinking led all GB scorers with 17 whilst Luol had 13.

The women got their first win of their Eurobasket campaign, now standing at 1-1 after beating Germany. Julie Page led the way for Tom Maher’s side with 20 points and five rebounds, while Natalie Stafford finished with 16 points and three assists. Jo Leedham had six steals and five rebounds to go with her 13 points, with Jenaye Wade-Frey chipping in with eight points and three assists.

Yeah, that was the only article I saw out of: the sun, the mail, the mirror, the telegraph, the times and the guardian. Pretty disappointing that all those papers apart from the express had an article. Least the article in the express was pretty decent.
