What a Game-GB beat Macedonia in Overtime

by Sam on August 9, 2010

In what was one of the greatest advertisements of British basketball ever, GB took down Macedonia 104-96 in overtime yesterday in their first home Eurobasket (and Olympic!) qualifer.

If you missed the live stream, or didn’t attend, you missed out! The game is already being hailed as a classic after GB came from 5 points down with just over 2 minutes remaining to send the game into overtime on a Luol Deng three pointer with 6.1 seconds remaining. In OT they proved too powerful for Macedonia and led by Captain Andrew Sullivan and Pops Mensah-Bonsu they closed the game out.

Pops Mensah-Bonsu was named MVP of the game, finishing with 27 points and 11 rebounds, Deng was one assist shy of a triple double with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists, whilst Andrew Sullivan had his biggest game for GB in years with 17 points and 9 rebounds.

The team now stand at 2-0 over their first two games and are looking to continue this form on Wednesday away at Bosnia & Herzegovina. Hats off to you if you were in the stands making noise, the place was ROCKIN’!

Thats intense! Big time basket. That must have taken some serious concentration and confidence in such a crucial point in the game.
